Kumara Parvatha Trek

I and my friend Aman made sudden trekking plan to Kumara Paravatha. Kumara Paravatha is also called Pushpagiri. First thing we did is called Battara Mane  and informed about food and stay. Booked Mangalore JN. EXP. train ticket to Subramanya Road and K.S.R.T.C bus ticket from Somavarpet to Bangalore.

We reached Subramanya Road railway station at 15:15 though the scheduled arrival time was 14:30. There was a K.S.R.T.C bus to Subramanya temple was waiting. It was bit crowded. There will be many jeeps to temple if you miss the bus. We gave quick visit to temple. Since it was Sunday we could see the spiral of queue for darshan.

Our plan was to reach Battara Mane by the end of the day. We started the trekking at 04:30 PM. The way goes inside the forest. Since it was bit humid and we were not use to it, beginning was bit tiring. On our way we met 4-5 groups who were coming back. By the nightfall i.e. around 07:00 PM we reached the end of the forest. From the other blogs we read  Though there are many deviations on the way, finally they join at some point. Take the straighter one which we felt shorter one. There were few trees full of fire flies which made them look like Christmas tree. By 08:30PM we reached Battara Mane. We had dinner there and slept.

Next day we resumed trekking at 06:00am. We completed the formalities at the Forest Dept. check post and paid rupees 200/- per head as entry fee. There is place for camping near forest check post. There is a view point as well. View of hills submerged in the sea of clouds was beautiful. From here every now and then we found sign boards. On all the signboards KP is mentioned as Pushpagiri Peak. We reached Kallu Mantapa at 07:30am.

On the way to peak we came across many smaller hills. These green covered hills in the cool morning made us feel the heavenly nature. With small breaks we reached the peak at 10:30am. There is a small temple and not much of a view when compared to that on the way. I recommend spending more time on the way than the peak.

We started our next journey to Beedalli at 11:30am. This way is little steeper than the other one. Here we have to climb down many steeper rocks. Then it goes inside the forest where trail is easier.
Way to Beedalli

We came across many streams which were totally dried as it was summer. Most of the sign boards were broken due to rust. There were dustbins on the way. We reached Beedalli check post at 02:00pm. They were informed about us and they were expecting us. After misguided by many people we reached Beedalli bus stop at 03:30pm.Bus stop is 4km from check post which we came to know later. Lone bus comes here at 03:45pm.
While waiting for the bus we had little chat with forest dept. employee who was waiting for bus. He told us that, once you leave the one check post they will pass the information like number of people in group and their destination to other check post. If you are carrying tent, they will charge extra amount as deposit and you can collect it back at the other check post.

  • Carry enough water. Water is available at Battara Mane
  • A bag to carry dry waste so that you can keep the forest intact
